It is not a secret that retail is not doing so well this quarter. American consumers went into hiding in September, leaving retailers with terrible sales and an uncertain future well beyond the holiday season. Wal-Mart Stores Inc said sales of discretionary items were weak as it posted solid results that were nevertheless a bit below expectations. Target reported a bigger than expected drop. Luxury stores such as Neiman Marcus and Saks also suffered in a deep sales slump. This defiantly worries a lot of retailers since holiday shopping season is coming. Customers probably began switching to lower-price brands and stores such as 1 dollar store. Many people said they plan to cut down cost in clothing, gift, decoration and travel. Therefore, we are probably seeing more and more discount coming out for clothing retails these days. Indeed, I just got another 30% off coupon from A/X last week. That was the second 30% off coupon I got from them within 1 month. There are few apparel brands trying to pass out coupons to motivate consumers to buy more.
