SPAM IM

Posted by stickme on Sunday, August 31st 2008

I suppose that the new thing with SPAM is to do the IM SPAM. I recently I have been getting lots and lots of SPAM from the Microsoft client. Apparently, MS does not have very good SPAM filtering on their IM program and they also make it easier to take your spam list and send IMs to those email addresses.

I have to say that as far as email is concerned, I am getting less and less SPAM as time goes on, so I suppose the filtering system they have been working on helps tremendously. I mean, it only took them too f-ing long to get that right. You would think they would apply that same train of thought to their IM client and make it harder to have SPAMmers send you junk IMs.

In any case, that MS is still the king of crap and it does not look as if it will relinquish that title to another company any time soon. I never get that crap from any of the other IM clients out there, so the others must be doing something right. But I guess that is a price to pay seeing as how Yahoo! Has a much better system in keeping SPAM IMs out, but it is a pain in the butt to add someone to your list so that you can IM them… I suppose someone just needs to find some common ground between filtering and allowing some freedom and user-friendliness to the whole adding a buddy thing.

Swim-Drowning

Posted by stickme on Saturday, August 30th 2008

No matter how many times I do it. I cannot believe how important it is to have air in your lungs when you go swimming to stay afloat. I mean, that is not all there is to it, but it certainly helps you keep buoyant so that you can stay floating easier and you do not tire yourself out so quickly.

But the cool thing about swimming and knowing this is that you can release your breath while under the water and sink yourself to the bottom and look up. I would recommend that you still pinch your nose to prevent water from gushing in while you are looking upward towards the sky. It is a pretty nice view usually and you can always see your air bubbles rushing to the surface to escapes the watery depths at which you place yourself.

The neat part of the whole experience that is that you do not need to keep pushing yourself down because you are no longer as buoyant with no air in your lungs so you can just lay there on the floor of the pool looking up for as long as you like. Um… that being said, I would recommend doing this in the shallow end of the pool so that you can easily come to the surface for air when your lungs tell you that you are an idiot and you need some oxygen.

Messed up work

Posted by stickme on Friday, August 29th 2008

As with all work places, there are busy times and slow times and then there are times that are not quite busy and not quite slow… well, with this company it is usually either really busy or really dead. In any case, we just got through our slow time and now we are in the short grey area which is not quite busy, but not quite dead either. Wait… what was my point…?

Umm… Oh yeah! So we just got off the dead times where i would come to work and read books on marketing and read tutorials on how to better improve my skillz (self teaching is cool) and now that we are starting to get more and more work… I am quite upset…

I know, I know! I should not be, but I guess I just got used to being able to work on what I wanted to work on so now when I get work to do that i do not want to do — it sucks. Is that not messed up? I mean, I get my work completed, it is just so painful to get it completed now. It is just like when you come off of a long vacation. Jumping right back into work just plain sucks for most people.

Ah, the tragedies of life that are not really all that bad.

Spinal Decompression

Posted by stickme on Thursday, August 28th 2008

So people have been telling me that your spine gets stressed or out of whack just by standing or sitting or what not because gravity pulls you down and compresses the spine. So I also hear that spinal decompression is good for your back and that simply laying down may not be enough. In that area, I have heard some people who say that their chiropractor puts them in a device that stretches them out which, in turn cracks their backs, and then in other cases, the chiropractor just does some freaky stretch things to you do crack your back.

But I am thinking, if it is just about taking weight off of your spine, why do you not just hang yourself upside-down and let gravity to the trick. Sure, sure you will get a headache from all the blood rushing to your head because your body was not build to pump blood from your head to your feet since you are supposed to be standing all the time. But I mean, that would surely take all that compression off and you do not have to pay anything!

Of course, if you’re holding onto the upside down bar with your feet they might cramp. Then, from the pain you might let go and go crashing head first in to the ground with all your weight… I guess facial compression would not be a good thing would it?

New Keyboards

Posted by stickme on Wednesday, August 27th 2008

I like Computers. Next to what’s inside the computer box and the box itself, I like the peripherals that come with it. Namely, what gets me really excited is a new keyboard that works well! I mean, the feel of the new keyboard with all the texture still on the keys that have not yet been worn down from hour upon hour of faithful typing and data entry. The smell of the toxic chemicals still setting into the keyboard circuits and what not. Feeling the resistance of the keys and I press down on them to type. The crisp clicking of the keys.

What is not to like about new keyboards? And let us not forget that they are new keyboards so there are no dirt marks, no sticky keys, no dust stuck in between and on the bottom of the keys. Everything is pristine and new.

Also, you get to learn about the new functions and features and test them out to see if it is something that you like or dislike! I think mostly though, it is the “clack! clack! clack!” and the texture of new keys that gets me the most. Although the feel of the keys as you press them down and they pop back up is also quite a nice experience.

Random Collector

Posted by stickme on Tuesday, August 26th 2008

I collect random things. One of those random things is lanyards! I am not talking about the normal ones that are like a ribbon with a crappy ring at one end. I am talking about the kind that are cloth or polyurethane rope and stuff. The ones with company logos and cool little functions like being able to detach the name badge or keys with out having to take it off the key ring or opening the clip.

I also like the ones that keep safety in mind and have that clip at the back where, if the lanyard becomes stuck in something it will detach itself from your neck instead of dragging you along and breaking your fool neck! The best are the ones that have a combination of that safety feature, the ability to take off what you are wearing with out having to unclip it and also have a logo of some company that you like.

Not that being a fan boy of any bottom line looking, profit seeking, people brain washing companies is a good thing, but you know what? Forget you! I will like them and that is that. Besides, they are great souvenirs for whatever event you attend. Not to mention that some of them have lights in them too!!! Glow in the dark!!

Underwater Goggles

Posted by stickme on Monday, August 25th 2008

I always find it amazing that you can open your eyes underwater and see where you are going. Granted, it may be all blurry so that you will not be able to see too well, but all in all you can see where you are going and you can tell if there is something or someone in front of you. Swimming goggles however, are great! They make everything crystal clear and if it is also tinted, it becomes like wearing underwater sunglasses or something. This makes it easier to sneak underwater to your prey and then pop up and drag them down towards the depths of the pool.

Also, it allows you to see the fish swimming around you as well as the coral and other marine life. that is pretty great when you think about it, especially if you go spear fishing. Instead of standing up and fishing in the shallow areas where you can walk on the reefs, you can go a little deeper and actually see them clearly before you spear them.

Also, if you drop something in the water it makes it that much easier to pick it back up because you can see things clearly you are not guessing if that blurry shape is the thing you dropped or some coral that is just lying there.

Sunburn Peels

Posted by stickme on Sunday, August 24th 2008

There was one time, several years ago where I went to the beach, did not wear sun screen and got massive sunburn on my back. Now I am talking MASSIVE sunburn. My whole back was sore and itchy and peeling. But luckily for me, because it was so badly sunburned the skin peeled off in big swathes and looked somewhat like brown tissue paper except much thinner and a little brittle if you pulled on it. The cool think about all of that was, although when you pulled them off they would get a crinkely, you could see all the pores and stuff from the skin in the peels.

Also, because it was like tissue paper you could let it go an watch it float to the ground. I guess the bad part about all of it was that my back itched like no other and every time I scratched it hurt because the skin was all raw from the sunburn. But in any case I saved all the peeled skin that I had in a candy tin, one of those LaCie ones. And I have kept them all these years… right now they are in storage somewhere but when I find them again I will open them up and see if the skin peels are still there. Should be interesting!

The Tea Mate

Posted by stickme on Saturday, August 23rd 2008

So we have a Coffeemate coffee maker in the office. Seeing as how everyone in the office purchases their coffee at one of the coffee shops near this place, it is no surprise that it does not get used often. This means that it is basically just sitting in the office waiting for someone to use it and the coffee that we have that was for it is so stale and gross that it is just nasty and should probably be thrown away. But that is not the point of the story.

So anyway, the whole point of the coffee machine is to brew coffee. Me? I am a tea drinker, I prefer tea over coffee any day so instead of making coffee, I brew tea. I put in the water, put no filter or anything, and then I just have it brew some hot water. Then I take my teabag, put it in the cup, and then pour the hot water in.

The cool thing about this technique is that the water is not so hot that it burns the tea. It is just hot enough to brew the tea but not enough so to ruin it. This is fantastic as I do not have to worry too much about watching the coffee pot. :-)

The Illustrator

Posted by stickme on Friday, August 22nd 2008

A friend of mine thinks that I should become an illustrator for children’s books. I thought that was very kind but I must say that I disagree. First of all, I hate children. They are snotty nosed little people who cost more than they are worth… and I have no will against them. Those little buggers just run all over me!! I can not help that! How do you say no to a cute little child? You can not unless you are one heartless bugger! Besides, they are irritating because they want attention so there is no way that you can not pay attention to those cute little guys and gals!

Anyway, also, how are you going to become an illustrator when all you do is stick figures? Children do not like stick figures or stick figure stories! I think my friend has a few screws loss in their head. Perhaps they are also not playing with a full deck of cards.

I just thought I would say that because I thought it would be interesting. Besides, I think that you would also need a good story writer to get a story that is decent to illustrate. I believe that the story that I would write would not make sense first of all, and in addition to that, it would probably be not appropriate for children since there would probably be lots of random and gratuitous blood, guts, and violence…

Although with stick figures I guess it would not be that graphic…
