Blinds vs. Curtains

Posted by clyde on Monday, January 26th 2009

When it comes to choosing blinds or curtains, it is a hard call many times. They both have their pros and cons. It is really a personal preference that will dictate which would look best in your home. Curtains have always been an old faithful through the generations. Not only do they accentuate your home décor, they also give a home privacy. You get curtains in a mass variety if styles, colors, and designs. There is no way that you could not find a pair of curtains to fit in every window of your home.

Depending on the look you are trying to achieve you will want to take into account the curtains that will work for you. If you plan to go sheer you will need to think of a back up for keeping your privacy, such as a shade that can be drawn down at night so passers by cannot see into your home. With really thick curtains that are made from a thick fabric, this may not be as much as a problem. It is still a wise idea to back up your curtains with a privacy measure such as a shade. Although curtains can add a lot of style to your windows, they can have some down sides. Alone, curtains offer very little in the way of privacy and security. If you have the lights on in your home and just the curtains drawn, it is safe to say that anyone can peek into your home. Curtains also need to be removed and washed from time to time to remain crisp and clean.

Blinds can give a home a different type of look altogether. Blinds cannot only provide the privacy that you desire, but you can adjust how much light you let in your home at any point in time as well. Blinds do not come in an array of styles like curtains do, but you can get them in many colors. You will be able to draw your blinds up as much as you prefer or leave them completely drawn, this will not affect the amount of light you receive. You have the option to open the blinds themselves as much as you prefer. Washing blinds is also a breeze. All you need is a cloth and some soapy water, good as new.  If you are using blinds in your home décor scheme, then it is most likely you are using fabric drapings or valances as well. These add a bit of style to the top of the blind where it meets the molding. A valance or draping will offer a bit of extra style or flair to your blinds to help tie in you room’s décor. The issue with blinds alone is that they are not very decorative when standing alone. Without any other type of window accessory, blinds can make a window look bare and a room unfinished decoratively speaking. Even a valance or fabric draping may not be enough with blinds a lone.

Then there are those people who just love them both and use them together. The perfect pair of curtains over a stylish blind can be just what the home decorator ordered. There is nothing better than the new look of a set of blinds displayed beneath a pair of amazing curtains that make the room everything that is. This will give you the best of both worlds. You will have all the privacy and light adjustment that you need, while adding to the home’s look with an amazing set of curtains that match your motif. This will work exceptionally well if you chose curtains that have a print that matches the rest of the room and a blind that is a solid color that is the same as one in the curtain. The contrast can really be helpful. Curtains and blinds together in each room can add just the best combination of pizzazz that works. These two window accessories together make an excellent match for any window ensemble. Together curtains and blinds offer person every possible choice to window home décor as well as privacy and lighting. So no matter what you decide – curtains, blinds, or both – you will not be disappointed as long as you achieve the look you were going for along with the benefits that each provides.

Choosing Your Office Chair

Posted by clyde on Sunday, January 25th 2009

If you don’t spend your days sitting at a desk then you really will not understand the importance of an office chair that is really comfortable. For those of us that live in front of our computers for more than forty hours every week we really understand how uncomfortable life can become when you do not have some good cushioning under our butt while we work.

We use to think of executive office chairs as only being for top level managers that made tons of money every minute of the day. But not anymore. Today even people working from home offices want to have top quality chairs for their office.

Most office chairs are made of leather because of its pliability and it’s ability to adjust to different temperatures. A leather chair will slowly warm up the longer you sit in it, making the chair more and more comfortable as time goes by. Another major component to executive office chairs is the wood that is used to create the base for the chair.

A good office chair will be designed to offer the best possible feel during the long duration that it is being used. Most chairs will have numerous adjustments that can change the angle and height of the chair so it can be adjusted to fit any person that sits in it.

A major down side to these office chairs is their cost. A really nice executive office chair can cost you hundreds… even thousands of dollars… depending on what materials it is made of. Real leather chairs are going to naturally cost more than chairs that are made from plastic. Other contributing factors to a chairs price include: the number of adjustment attachments that are included, how many wheels or legs are on the chair, and the material that is used to make the chair.

No matter what type of office chair you are considering getting, make sure you fully understand all the pluses and minuses that are associated with the chair you want. Some chairs may not seem to have any downsides, but then you get them home and realize that the chair is not nearly the chair you thought it was.

Take your time and do a little research before you just go out and buy a chair. Time spend researching the chair will likely transfer into money saved on your executive chair purchase. The Internet is a great place to look for solutions to your research dilemma, through the Internet you can find out the basic information you need to know in order to make the best possible decision for your office.

From Fleece To Fashion

Posted by clyde on Saturday, January 24th 2009

If you want an easy sewing project, use polar fleece.  Polar fleece is an excellent material for any beginner.  You can use it to create blankets, hats, mittens, jackets, scarves, pants, pullovers, and more.  There is little to worry about when working with fleece providing you have chosen a polar fleece of good quality.

Polar fleece comes in three weights:  light weight, medium weight, and heavy weight.  The fabric weight that you choose determines the type of product that can be created.

Heavyweight fleece is best used for blankets and coats.  Often there are high quality waterproof fleeces that are perfect for outdoor wear.  Heavyweight fleece is excellent for winter clothing.  Skiers love it because it is light weight but incredibly warm.

For mittens, hats, scarves, and fall jackets, purchase a medium weight polar fleece.  Again, more expensive versions of this fleece will be water resistant.  Medium weight fleece provides enough protection from fall weather.

Lightweight or micro fleece is perfect for pullovers, pants, and glove linings.  As is true of the heavyweight and medium weight fleece fabrics, there are more costly versions of micro fleece that offer water resistant qualities.  Lightweight fleece provides some warmth, but not an excessive amount.  It is perfect for cool spring days.

Look for fleece with a tight weave and resistance to pilling (shedding small clumps of fuzz.)  One good way to understand the difference between a high quality fleece and a lower quality one is to go to a sports shop.  Examine and feel the fleece they use in their outwear.  This is top quality fleece and the type you will want to use.  Now go to a cheaper department store and examine and feel their inexpensive gloves and scarves, this is the fleece to avoid.

The Internet is an excellent place to look for fleece.  Many websites will provide you with small fabric samples if requested, some for free and others ask for enough money to cover shipping.  Because of the number of online fabric stores, you are guaranteed to find competitive prices.  Typically, high quality fleece will cost less than $25 per yard.

Once you have purchased your material, you need to be sure you have the other supplies on hand.  ‘For any project you should have a pattern, needle, thread, sewing machine, pinking shears, rotary shears, and access to the Internet for additional tips and answers to any questions that may pop up.

Do not rush any sewing project.  Taking your time ensures quality.  Do not expect your first go to be perfect.  Even experts make mistakes.  Therefore, demanding perfection of yourself on the first time out is an unnecessary waste of your time.  After all, practice is the key to perfection.

Finding Great Golf Shoes

Posted by clyde on Wednesday, January 21st 2009

Getting the right golf shoes is not as easy as it was in the past. There are literally hundreds of options out there for you. Knowing which one is better than the next is not simple by any means. To find the correct golf shoe for you, be prepared to do a little research so that you know what types and brands are available to you. You can start your search by checking the Internet to see what kind of consumer information is out there. Read as many review and articles on golf shoes as you possibly can so that you will be as educated as possible. You want golf shoes that are comfortable and durable. In addition, look for ones that are not out of your price range and that are not going to hurt your feet. That is a lot to remember, but with a little homework you can certainly find the right pair of golf shoes for you.

First thing to consider is how you play golf as an individual. The way you play is something that should greatly affect the type of shoes you decide will be best for you. If, for instance, you tend to walk when you play, you will likely use a little different type of shoe than will someone who often rents a cart to play. Likewise, if you are the type of player that likes to rent a cart, take that into consideration as you seek out your golf shoes.

Another thing to consider as you search for your perfect golf shoe is the type of spike you like to use. Some people prefer the soft spikes, while other prefer hard ones. The thing is that most golf courses now require you to use the soft spikes. So if you like the hard spikes more, it is best to check out the golf courses you prefer to find out if they will even let you use the hard spikes. The reason many courses have gone away from allowing hard spikes is that they are destructive to the grass and the rest of the course. In almost every case, you are going to be better off just getting soft spikes for your shoes. Soft spike shoes make it easier to walk on the cart paths and in the clubhouse of your favorite course. Shopping for golf shoes will be easier on you and on the course if you seek out shoes that use soft spikes for your golfing.

Another thing to do when you look for your golf shoes is to try on many shoes from a variety of brands. No matter what you are looking for in a golf shoe, and no matter what it is you find, you should always try on the shoes. There is no way to know how your feet are going to react to golf shoes if you do not try them on first. The best choice for golf shoes is going to be the pair that fits you best. Fit is every bit as important, if not more so, than the type of spikes you use or what your golfing habits. When you play around of golf you are going to be wearing the shoes for a long time so you need to make sure they fit and are comfortable. Make sure the shoes have good arch support, solid soles, and a nice feeling on your foot. A round of golf is going to last several hours so make sure your feet get through it okay.

When you play golf, your entire game starts with your feet. From your stance to your weight shift, your feet play an important role in your swing and overall game. Since your feet are so important to your game, it is necessary to make sure you have the best possible golf shoes for your feet. Make sure your shoes are the right size as well as having the right types of spikes in them. Soft spikes are recommended since it is becoming more and more rare to find a place that will allow you to even wear the hard metal spikes. Once you have the right type of spikes, and then just make sure the shoes fit correctly. The only way you will know, though, is to try them on.

Carats

Posted by clyde on Monday, January 19th 2009

Many people equate the term carat with the size of a diamond, and as carat size increases, so will the carat weight. But the operative word there is weight. Carat refers to the weight of a diamond and is equal to roughly 200 milligrams which is less than a ¼ of an ounce. A carat can also be broken up into 100 points. So ¾ of a carat is also 75 points.

The heavier in carat weight a diamond is, the rarer it becomes. Prices of diamond increase exponentially with the weight of the diamond, so a one-carat diamond will cost much more than two ½-carat diamonds, given that other qualities, such as color and clarity, are equal.

The cutting of a diamond can impact the size of it, so depending on how their cut, two one-carat diamonds can look unequal. If a stone is cut flatter, then it will appear bigger, while a deeper cut stone will be smaller, but may have more brilliance and scintillation. You may be tempted to purchase a stone that’s cut flatter so that you can have the appearance of a larger, or heavier stone. But a diamond that’s cut too flat will have too little brilliance and can look cloudy. Carat weight is important, but there’s no point to sacrificing other qualities that make a diamond special so you can say you have a two-carat stone. A beautiful one-carat diamond, with outstanding brilliance and scintillation is going to be the better choice, from both a personal standpoint and an investment standpoint.

A smaller diamond can always be enhanced with baguettes, trillians or smaller same-shape stones on either size. As we stated earlier, two smaller stones won’t cost as much as an equally-weighted single stone, so you can increase the importance of the ring you’re buying without doubling your cost.

Prada Handbags

Posted by clyde on Friday, January 16th 2009

Prada handbags have long been considered as a fashion statement.  It is one of the symbols of fashion in today’s highly innovative world, and the word “elegance” and “quality” have been attached to its name for centuries now, making Prada handbags truly great pieces of art.

The Prada handbags are designed and manufactured by Prada itself, one of the most celebrated fashion companies in Italy and the world.   The company was founded by Mario Prada in 1913 and it was originally known in Italian as Fratelli Prada, which means Prada Brothers in English.  Prada started designing and manufacturing handbags and other leather goods following its establishment and it is nice to know that within just a short time, they received widespread recognition with success in Europe and the United States.  As an act of expansion, Prada opened two boutiques in Milan and sell their authentic handbags, shoes, and trunks out there.

According to several reviews, the Prada handbags generally embody a great style and luxury in the designer handbag industry.  Yes, Prada handbags are known throughout the world as designer handbags and they are all built bearing the virtue of simplicity, luxury, and elegance.

It is interesting to know that the first set of Prada handbags were crafted from a heavy walrus skin.  Noting that the design is not well suited for air travel, the company then started to place greater emphasis on the use of fine leather for their handbags and accessories.  They also incorporate new and advanced materials to enhance the quality and style of their products.  They actually use crystals, wood and tortoise shell for the designs of their handbags.  Then Prada saw the need for waterproof items, so they started producing waterproof Prada handbags and accessories.  The company had succeeded in their own venture, so it’s no wonder that until these days waterproof and simply elegant Prada handbags are sold in the market throughout United States, Europe and the world.

However, just like the other fashion companies, Prada saw a decline in the 1970s.   The company was taken over by Mario Prada’s granddaughter named Miuccia Prada and it was her who led the company since 1978.

According to some reports, Miuccia Prada has a good sense of fashion.  It was her led the company and became the steering force in the company’s emergence into the world of haute couture.  The first success of the company into this field was attributed to Miuccia’s luxury tote handbags and backpacks that were crafted from black nylon material.  The new look and image of Prada handbags was later considered, and it was her black nylon “Pocone” material handbag which became the hottest sensation in the United States.  From the introduction of Pocone, a new set of Prada handbags were brought to the public.  Numerous reports have noted that this set of Prada handbags was so practical, but they appear with a sense of high fashion and came with a high fashion price tag.

The Prada handbags these days, however, are being imitated.  A vast production of replicas was introduced and this is perhaps due to their standing as a status symbol.  Simply put, many people desire to own an authentic Prada handbag but because of Prada’s relatively simple symbol design, counterfeiting becomes easy.  People may even have difficulty these days of identifying which of the products is authentic and which is fake.

Necessary Hardware Additions for your Computer to Handle Online Games

Posted by clyde on Monday, January 12th 2009

As online gaming is taking the world by storm, so is the desire to be a true champion in this gaming universe. With more and more people enjoying online play these days, it can be quite understandable that the need for better hardware for your computer is a real issue among gamers of this society. When you think about it, a typical home computer is nothing more than the machine, a keyboard, and a mouse of either wired or wireless status, speakers, and a monitor for viewing. This is hardly enough for a serious online pc gamer to get the job done, this is where all of the new and exciting perpetual and devices come in handy. Unlike console gaming either online or off, the PC is not really equipped to handle the very fast and complex visuals and control of some of today’s games. If you wish to play online games from your PC, you will need to do some upgrading on some of your chipsets, and graphics cards as well as a better sound card that what is most probably available in your machine.

When you replace your graphics card, you will then have yourself in a catch 22 situations. The faster the graphics card the faster the game, now you have reached a standstill when it comes to controlling the game off of your keyboard or mouse. For this very reason, many pc hardware companies have developed pc controllers not unlike the controllers found in most of the current gaming consoles. There are a great number of these controllers on the market, and depending on what type of game you intend on playing online most probably dictate what type of controller you will need. There are wheels for racing games, and sticks for flight simulators, there are also multi-button pads for fighting and adventure games. All of these game pads or controllers if you will can be bought in either the wired format or the wireless version. This allows the gamer the option and the opportunity to play many of the faster games on the market and keep up with the crowd.

Many times when people buy a computer, they really have no intention on purchasing it solely for gaming. For this reason they generally buy a pre-packaged computer that may not have the graphic power to run some of today’s faster games. This is really not an issue however, as there are a great number of graphic cards on the market, that can simply be plugged into your computer, and are basically of the plug and play format. This will help gamers get the latest graphics on their machine, as their pc will now be up for this transition. The same can be said for sound cards as well, generally the store bought pc is not equipped with a very good sound card, as it is really not needed for everyday applications on a home computer. There are some great sound cards available today for pc’s that will bring them to and beyond the current status of a next generation console. This will allow for the introduction of Dolby Digital, and DTS soundtracks, which are in multi-channel formatting.

Once all of these pieces are grouped together in your pc, it would be best to invest in a good monitor for your gaming experience. Again like the sound and graphics chips, the monitor for your PC is really not geared for pc online gaming. There are a lot of great monitors available today for the gamer at heart, when it comes to your PC. Many people that plan on using their pc for gaming opt for a larger screen that what was sold to them with the computer. What is becoming increasingly popular today is the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) these monitors come in many sizes ranging from 12 inches all the way up to 30 inches for a computer. Depending on your application for the monitor generally bigger is always better. Many of the newer pc monitors available on the market are of the flat screen variety, which offers much better detail and color for the gamer to enjoy. These few adjustments to your computer could send you well into the thick of your favorite pc online game in no time flat.

Cell Phone Telemarketing

Posted by clyde on Friday, January 9th 2009

Many things have gotten easier with the advancement of cell phones. People can stay more in touch, be more up to date, be safer in possibly unsafe situations, work harder and play harder. Despite many rumors and fears, one thing not getting easier is telemarketing.

Telemarketers are one of the most dreaded phone calls for many telephone users. People have tried to avoid telemarketer calls with unlisted numbers, caller ID, call screening, Do Not Call lists and the law. The law is possibly the least considered; especially considering it is already in place for you the consumer.

The rise of cell phones has brought several concerns; including the concern over telemarketers gaining access to cell phone number lists. Many people consider their cell phones to be more private than a landline phone. Strangers calling this number can be received as an invasion of personal space and privacy. Several considerations must be taken into account before becoming too concerned over this issue.

First, there currently is no cell phone number list available to telemarketers. Numerous large phone companies had discussed creating a large cell phone database, but to no avail. As the cell phone movement progresses, keep track of what your cell phone company is doing with your number (and phone records). If a database does exist within your company, it may be possible to ask to be taken off the list. Many companies are concerned about customer fears and consequences to the company because of those fears. Try sending an email or writing a letter stating what you think about a cell phone number list. Enough of a similar opinion can sway the head decision maker of a company.

Secondly, the law is on the cell phone owner’s side. It is currently illegal for a telemarketer to make a telemarketing call to a cell phone number if the telemarketer is using an automated dialer. Most telemarketing companies use the automatic dialer technique, thus could not call your cell phone even if they had gotten hold of your number.

If all else fails, you can register you cell phone number with the National Do Not Call List. A telemarketer cannot call you if your number is in this registry the number. This registry is the same one you may have registered your landline phone number with. You may register your cell phone (and land line) with this registry at any time.

If you are continually getting telemarketing type calls on your cell phone, do some research into what type of other lists you may be on. Sometimes signing up for something (magazines, free offers, etc) puts the phone number you have provided on a list salable to outside companies. You should also confirm that groups who do have your phone number do not create such a list, or at least ensure that you are not on such a list.

Play station portable and iPod video comparison

Posted by clyde on Friday, January 2nd 2009

The new iPod video was one of the most surprising products of 2006, due to the fact that iPods didn’t include the video feature, since the launching of the 5th generation of iPods in 2005.

Still, the natural comparison the customers (and not only) made was the one between the play station portable, also known as the PSP and the new model of the iPod series. PSP is basically a handheld game console which was produced by the company Sony Computer Entertainment, back in 2004. The public’s reactions to this new device which was rather different than almost everything on the market was very good, due to the fact that the small device allowed customers to play famous games, and, at the same time, watch clips.

Comparing the batteries of these 2 devices or, better said, the life of the batteries, it is a fact that the PSP device lasted much longer than the iPod. While playing a movie, the battery of the iPod dies after almost 2 hours and a half, while the PSP battery lasts up to more than 7 hours, which is a big plus.

Comparing the audio quality, it must be said the fact that both the devices provide a good audio quality; still, the iPod video turned out to provide a slightly clearer sound than the play station portable. This is due to the act that the audio in the iPod video file is encoded into AAC audio. On the other hand, the PSP seemed to have more bass in some cases, but overall, the difference was not that relevant and significant. The video quality of the 2 devices is another subject worthy to discuss and debate upon. It is known the fact that the PSP has a much larger screen. Even so, in this case, the large size advantage does not equal a better picture: the iPod manages to show a very sharp picture and sharp and clear text (even long ones). On the other hand, when discussing the difference in the video conversation, the fact is that a video iPod takes around 12 hours to encode a video, while the play station portable only needs a bit under 3 hours to do the same thing.

Comparing the 2 devices, it is obvious that they both have advantages and some flaws. Even though the video quality seems better on the iPod video device, the PSP presents a longer life of the battery and faster ways to encode videos. Still, the iPod is a smaller device, so it is natural that some features are not that optimized as in the case of the PSP. Even more, due to the fact that it is smaller, the iPod is much easier to transport and to use in various occasions. The studies even showed the fact that both items are sold mostly in vacation periods, meaning the fact that the customers use them as an entertainment item in their both summer and winter holidays.

The 2 devices, even though they are similar in many ways of their practical usage, present both pros and cons or advantages and disadvantages. Depending on the customer’s needs and desires, they can choose the one that best fits their necessity, available time or quality expectations.
