Last weekend I took a 6 hour road trip to San Francisco for a friend’s birthday party. For some people, 6 hours in a car could be an excruciating experience of boredom or sheer terror of monotony. For me, all I need is good company and the right music to enjoy the ride. An old school cat like myself grew up with cassette tapes and eventually graduated to the world of CD’s. But now with the explosion of personal mp3 players, I had to join the movement.

I recently received my first iPod, a gift from a friend who had to venture on to the world of 160GB opposed to the lowly world of only 80GB. I guess holding 20,000 songs just doesn’t cut it anymore. Having all my music stored on one location was great, but how could I share the musical experience with my passenger?

Then one day the Griffin iTrip FM Transmitter came into my life. The set up is simple enough that even an 8 year old could figure out. You just set the tuner to a specific FM station and press play. In addition, it has the ability to save your stations so you can surf through them quickly to find reception. The great thing about the iTrip is it has an integrated charger that recharges your iPod while it plays.

The one draw back would be the long wire. At times it does tangle and could be obtrusive. But for the most part, the iTrip is easy to use and it transmits very clearly through your car stereo. This simple device made my ride up north very enjoyable. The road trip was a success minus the price for gas. But that’s another story for another blog.
