Although I claim that I’m immersed in the classical art and music culture, I’ve always found trips to the museums dull. Especially looking through pieces and pieces of incomprehensible paintings that I think I could whip up in two minutes with a paint brush and some paint. However, any visual art beyond 2D I find so much more interesting, especially those from the ancient world. That’s why a trip to Villa was a great experience.
Villa was the original museum of Getty, where Mr. Getty lived and placed his personal collections. The Villa is a small museum solely dedicated to Roman and Greek art, that means fewer paintings, lots of sculptures. The architecture of Villa is a replication of the Villa of Papyri of Rome, which still sits under the ash of the volcanic eruption. The Villa itself is stunningly beautiful, and yet it’s right here in Los Angeles. I was impressed by the Villa’s beauty. It doesn’t take much time to cover the whole museum, and the crowd is very small due to limited admission. After viewing the art, there are still gardens in the Villa to walk around and admire. This is a great place to spend Sunday afternoon.
