Luxry smart phone - Mago

Posted by iphone on Sunday, September 28th 2008

Mago

This is a old phone back in 2006, but it still looks pretty cool nowdays.

MAGO is a smart phone which is created out of specialized Titanium, devoid of mass-production methods. The phone is compact, lightweight, fingerprint-resistant. MAGO’s oversized screen is perfect for a smart phone as it allows you to see everything without squinting. It was designed by the Russia based industrial designer Evgueni Maslov.

A new Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone, that may or may not ever see the light of day, is the Mago Premium Smartphone.  Developed by Tancher for Mago Mobile, the phone is made from titanium, stainless steel and magnesium, and sports an Intel xScale 624MHz CPU.  A stylized candybar format hides a host of fairly common features (by comparison to other smartphones) with the exception of a fairly large battery (1950mAh Li-Ion), a touchscreen, and 128MB RAM/ROM.  The touchscreen is of note because Microsoft does not officially support a touchscreen for a WM5 Smartphone . . . yet.

• Windows Mobile OS
• Quad-band 850/900/1800/1900MHz
• Class 2 Bluetooth ver.1.2
• Wi-Fi (802.11b)
• 240×320 2.8’’ LTPS Transflective TFT LCD (262k colors)
• Touch screen
• Intel xScale PXA27X 624MHz CPU
• 128MB Mobile SDRAM
• 128MB Intel StrataFlash 32bit
• 1950mAh Li-Ion Battery
• 2.5mm Stereo Audio Jack
• USB 2.0 (Full Speed) Interface
• SD/MMC/mini-SD support
• Overall Size - 134×55x15mm
• Advanced materials, hi-tech aerospace technologies and special scratch resistant coatings for housing and mechanical parts (Grade 5 Titanium, Stainless Steel, Magnesium)

Note that the picture shown is of the prototype model, and some sites are reporting that it may never be released for public consumption.  Another site, in Russian of course, claims the phone was released mid-2006 for $3,600 USD.  With a price like that, they may as well just keep it.

Blackberry’s RIM “head in sand”

Posted by iphone on Friday, September 26th 2008

You might noticed that the company that makes Blackberry phone, it’s stock dropped quite a bit today. What happened to RIM? What happened to Blackberry? Are we still see the new Blackberry Bold soon? Read this story:

Needham and Company contributed to a steep decline in Research in Motion’s share price today by warning investors that the BlackBerry creator is likely going to perform below expectations in the near future. Analyst Craig Bisagna notes that while RIM is secure in its business sales, Needham sees the company’s dismissive attitude towards competitors in a financial conference call Thursday as overly optimistic and unrealistic.

However, the figures are also accompanied by slightly lower than expected shipments of 6.1 million BlackBerries over the same period, meeting more modest expectations from American Technology Research and Citi analysts and falling below one estimate of 6.3 million phones from RBC. About 2.6 million subscribers new to BlackBerries were added in the summer.

The company also just slightly missed expectations for its revenue, creating $2.58 billion in pure income versus an anticipated $2.6 billion.

RIM hasn’t yet had an opportunity to explain the perceived shortfall but has been potentially affected by multiple factors outside of its direct control, including a potential siphoning effect as the iPhone 3G takes customers that would otherwise have purchased BlackBerries.

LG KS20 touch screen phone

Posted by iphone on Thursday, September 25th 2008

LG-KS20 Smartphone

LG KS20 provides customers with an advanced mobile internet experience with its ’Broadband Mobile Internet’, ’2.8 inch Large Screen’ and ’Intuitive Touch Input,’ and is only 12.8 mm thick. Compatible with highly advanced Broadband Mobile Internet networks, the phone allows users to enjoy the full benefits of 3.6Mbps mobile internet, music downloads, video clips and Windows Live content, as well as push email.

The LG KS-20 has a very clean and uncluttered candybar design, which makes it look like a luxurious baby. The front panel comes with only three buttons, for main calling functions only. As the LG KS-20 smartphone is equipped with a 2.8 inch touchscreen, which is the basic need to be qualified as an iPhone challenger. Besides, it has a stylus for the touchscreen.

The phone comes loaded with Windows Mobile 6 OS, which is clear an attempt aiming those business class who prefer a smartphone with the Windows Mobile environment. The KS-20 is also equipped with wireless connectivities such as WLAN, which is quite common in almost every smartphone these days. And of course, high-speed Internet connectivity that rides on the HSDPA. The phone also supports Bluetooth 2.0 and the memory expansion can be via the microSD card slot. The camera of this guy is definitely much behind with today’s high-end cellphones from other makers. The phone has a 2-megapixel camera only. Other than the LED flash that comes with the camera, the megapixels that it carries is simply disappointing to many of us. Overall the features seem to be qualified as a iPhone challenger except the camera.

How is LG KS20 compared to iPhone?

The silent, yet eerily palpable rivalry betwixt LG and Apple continues, secretly, growing subtlety with every new phone release (as you can see in the Windows Mobile-based KS20). Or maybe these two companies just love this design — certainly Nokia in front of it. It’s hard to say really, but what isn’t hard to say is that these phones do look alike, and there’s no way around it. Please forgive the German showgirl for the upside down iPhone handling — they haven’t had the fortune of holding them here. After the break, be sure and note the UI of LG’s KU990 — the company’s other widescreen touch phone — and its familiar look. One thing’s for sure: they all smudge the same.

Google HTC G1 cell phone, coming in Oct

Posted by iphone on Wednesday, September 24th 2008

Believe it or not, google’s first cell phone is coming soon. check this out:

“As T-Mobile finished handing off a round of press invites to its Android event next week, Google was busy having a bit of Android fun as well. At a developer event held earlier this week in London, Google’s Mike Jennings gave quite the demo - showcasing a few apps and even displaying an app that he wrote himself in about two hours. The point of course is that Android is a truly open OS which makes it easy for any developer to get involved. We still have plenty of reason to be excited about next week’s T-Mobile event as Jennings was quite limited in what he was able to display to attendees. In fact he couldn’t even make a call with the handset in front of attendees though he admitted that he has been using and Android-powered phone personally, albeit not in public. While all this is fine and dandy, we’re more interested in the latest timing rumors that have emerged in the wake of the London event. It looks like T-Mobile customers will have first crack at the HTC G1 on Friday, October 17. The handset will begin shipping to stores that Monday but the cat won’t be allowed out of the bag until Friday. What’s more, news that Sprint will be next in line for some Android love has emerged and it will not be hocking a CDMA version of the G1. Sprint will apparently make an entirely different handset available by the end of the year. Jennings wouldn’t admit the manufacturer or model of Sprint’s initial Android offering, though he did mention “other functionality” when comparing it to the G1. So Sprint customers, you’ll just have to sit tight and expect some new info on your upcoming Android offering to leak out soon. T-Mobile customers on the other hand, it looks like you’ve got another month to make up your mind but we’ll surely be confirming the exact release timing next week.”

iphone vs Blackberry~ Which is better and why?

Posted by iphone on Tuesday, September 23rd 2008

Let’s listen to the users from their own experience.
“well when it comes to email and push”

iPhone = email is pushed to your phone if you read on your computer it automaticly updates on your phone that its been read so no longer marked as a new message.

Blackberry = while new messages are Pushed to your phone if you read on your computer or anywhere else it does not update it on your phone….

iPhone = one nice easy to use email app which when you click on it has all your email accounts and you choose which one you want

Blackberry = you just have under Applications a bunch of email accounts and will show a icon on it when you have a new message but you have to go and click on each one to see which email account its actually for.

iPhone = email app shows HTML emails

Blackberry = doesn’t show HTML emails so if you have emails that are in HTML you will just have a bunch of code that makes no sense to ya.

IF you are a power email user, with many folders, accounts and organizing requirements, the Blackberry cannot be beaten by anything else out there.   For everything else, however, the iPhone is far superior.

Blackberry - if you lose it you can tell the device to self destruct all emails and corporate applications

iPhone - if you lose it then all the data stored on it stays there and you are SOL

Blackberry - stripping HTML email and images means that data usage is low reducing corporate bills and making it efficient to use overseas.
iPhone - full HTML email experience so lots of data on emails.

other things like the iPhone not handling recurring appointments on the calendar well or being able to do certain scheduling functions still make the iPhone more personal and the blackberry more suited to a corporate environment.

iPhone’s alternative - Garmin Nuvifone

Posted by iphone on Sunday, September 21st 2008

Garmin recently announced the release of a brand new product that they call the Nuvifone which is an a sleek touchscreen device which combines features like a phone, web browser and a personal navigation system.

Garmin Nuvifone

The Garmin Nuvifone which is to be released in the third quarter this year is now in the phase of testing out price points in the market. Garmin sent some people a survey that listed the phone at $500 through At&t with a two year contract.

“The nüvifone is an all-in-one device offering unmatched integration of utility and function in a single mobile device,” said Cliff Pemble, Garmin’s president and COO. “This is the breakthrough product that cell phone and GPS users around the world have been longing for — a single device that does it all.”

It is believed that the Nuvifone price will drop because of competition and rumors about the iphone dropping its own prices. (Hope so!!!)

Garmin NuviFone GpsDock.com

The NuviFone will feature Google local search capabilities where users of the phone can look for points of interest like coffee shops or the nearest park and Google will return relevant results. Additional features of the new NuviFone include:

  • “Where am I?” - which allows you to see the exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. You will also be able to find your car in an unfamiliar spot or crowded parking lot by automatically marking the position in which it was last removed from the vehicle mount.  This feature is available in high end gps systems and is very useful.
  • Garmin Online is an online service offering constantly-updating information such as real-time traffic, fuel prices, stock prices, sport scores, news reports, local events and weather forecasts.
  • Built in Camera will let you tag any pictures you take with the exact latitude and longitude of the location that the picture was taken. You will also have access to Google’s Panoramio picture sharing service.
  • MP3 / MPEG4 Player

iPhone’s GPS, sucks

Posted by iphone on Saturday, September 20th 2008

It’s not so hard to find this from Apple’s website “Find your location, get directions, and see traffic — all from your phone. Maps on iPhone 3G combines GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell tower location technology with the Multi-Touch interface to create the best mobile map application ever.”

But the reality is: iPhone’s GPS sucks. I suggest iPhone not calling this GPS, ’cause it’s misleading. I admit that Google’s map on iPhone is very convinient but you can’t depend on it as a GPS. Here is the difference, a read GPS can guide you directions and always recalculating the route based upon your current location, it is dynamic. iPhone’s so-called GPS doesn’t do this for you.

True, the iPhone 3G has a real GPS chip inside, not as before, fake triangulation junk from cell towers to approximate where you are. (The interesting development is that with the developers pack, GPS software makers are jumping on board too.) Good news is coming. TomTom said yesterday that they are already running software, “Our navigation system runs on the iPhone already,” said a TomTom spokesman, according to Reuters. No word on availability. This may come as a surprise to some folks, but it shouldn’t be knowing that TomTom does a decent little business on the side for PDA navigation. Repurpose the code, and go. My guess is that for $149, you’ll be up and running. There are also other rumors that has the Dash navigation software loaded onto the iPhone too, which would put a very connected experience into the hands of iPhone users. The advanced traffic capabilities would be a plus.

Sony Ericsson Walkman W950i

Posted by iphone on Friday, September 19th 2008

Sony Ericsson Walkman W950i with 4GB!

I have been thinking give my baby sister a cell phone as gift. I thought about iPhone but it’s not actually a good idea. First of all, it is pretty big for a girl, it is not easy for them to carry in her purse. I remember before when she decide which phone to buy, she wanted it to be a small size. Secondly, she never use a phone to go online. She is not a person whose life is so depending on the internet. With iPhone, she will have to pay extra 30 dollars a month for something she will never use. Also, she wants a phone that has good quality of camera and decent mp3 music player.

I decide to buy a sony Ericcson phone for her. It is quit small, cute and with good quality. I trust sony’s digital camera, it has good reputation.

ads from Shopzilla

The phone is really a rectangular block with minimal protrusions. Compared with many handsets out there today, it may be a tad bulky but it does offer a comfortable ergonomic form factor for prolonged use with a stylus. Instead of the traditional hard buttons on most models, Sony Ericsson hides the keypad beneath the top cover of the handheld for a flushed surface treatment.

It’s a mixed bag, though. We like how the unit masquerades as a portable media player rather than a mobile phone, but it is also difficult to type on the keypad because you cannot “feel” the buttons despite the tiny Braille-like protrusions on each key. The learning curve gets steeper if you’re trying to text blind.

There’s no mistaking the W950i for a music-enabled phone, not with the trademark “W” insignia on both the front and side. Unlike BlackBerrys which have their jog dials on the right of the handheld, favoring right-handers, the W950i has its jog dial on the left. A Back button below the dial allows easy access to the previously viewed page on the terminal. It is a tricky situation here since this reviewer is a right-hander and would have preferred the dial on the right. Suffice to say, after a few days of scrolling using the left thumb, we got used to it.

If the jog dial navigation isn’t your cup of tea, there’s always the large 240 x 320-pixel 2.6-inch touchscreen LCD that’s capable of displaying up to 262K colors. In our tests, the panel didn’t disappoint with its vibrant colors. Nor did the screen appear washed-out in bright outdoor light. Reading text was easy on the eyes. The stylus tips are colored orange on both ends, making it hard to miss even if you store this in its slot in the top left corner of the handheld.

A Play/Stop key and volume rocker lie on the right edge of the Walkman. Over in the rear, three orange dots below the Sony Ericsson logo line the onboard speakers.
