With gas prices getting more expensive and airlines going bankrupt, flights have gotten more expensive this year. Here are a few recommendations to get good travel and vacation deals.
- Use a search aggregate site. Sites like Kayak.com, Orbitz, Travelocity, and Cheaptickets are great research and comparisson sites.
- Buying directly from the Airline’s website can often cut the middle man costs out. Many Airlines also have a lowest price guarantee now.
- Check Southwest.com. Southwest isn’t part of most flight aggregators.
- Look at and consider flexible dates. Leaving Thursday generally gets you significantly cheaper flights. Many search aggregators have this option to help you out.
- Look at Farecast. It predicts whether the flight will go up or down, sort of like a stock predicter. This only applies to certain cities and for the next 90 days, but it’s still really cool to check out. They even offer a $9.95 insurance because they’re so confident.
- Look at last minute deals, especially for vacation trips and packages. Airlines and hotels figure that if they don’t sell their product by a few days in advance, why not sell it cheap and little money instead of no money. Lastminute.com and BizRate is a good start to find these deals.
- If you want cheap cheap (my recommendation cheap), I’d suggest you research fun, clean hostels at hostelworld.com or hostelbooker.com.
